Northwest Cook Region Fall Training

Sept. 12 – PTA Road to Success
This course explains the who, what and why of PTA. This course is for everyone! The bylaws require this for the entire board (chairmen and officers).

Sept. 12 – Reflections
Share the arts with your students while helping build confidence and self-esteem through recognition and celebration of their efforts. Learn more about the ins-and-outs of hosting and supporting the Reflections program, including rules, due dates, packaging, promotion, judging, best practices, success stories, program tips, and Q&A time.

Sept. 14 – Membership Workshop
Learn what resources are available to you. Learn how to engage everyone in growing your membership and the benefits of everyone begin a PTA member.

Sept. 14 – Money Matters 101
This course will take you through everything you will be responsible for as a PTA treasurer including how to prepare a budget, conducting an audit, fundraising, managing money and bank accounts, electronic banking, treasurer’s financial reports, accountability to members and the government, and how to protect your 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. It is suggested that all PTA treasurers and presidents take this course, but it would be beneficial to any PTA officer.

Sept. 18 – Presidents’ Course
Now that you have stepped up to be President, learn what it takes to do the job well! This course will give you the information needed to manage your PTA and have a fun exciting time doing it.

Sept. 21 – Money Matter 201
This course will take you more in depth into some of the legal issues you may encounter as a 501(c)(3) association. It is suggested that all PTA treasurers take this course, but it contains many legal issues, which other PTA officers should be aware of.

Sept. 21 – Council Course
This course explains what a council is, how it connects multiple PTAs together and enhances our voice for children, what councils can do for PTAs and its role within the PTA structure. This course should be attended by Presidents and Council Board members or anyone who wants to learn more about PTA.

Vendor Fair – April 19

The Northwest Cook Region PTA invites PTA members to the Vendor Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Frost Junior High School, 320 W. Wise Road in Schaumburg.

Meet potential vendors for your programs and fundraisers in 2017-18. Vendors at the event will include spirit wear, assemblies, yearbooks/school photos, product sales, hot lunch and more.

Free admission. Preregister by April 12 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RRT2ZXQ. Although pre-registration is not necessary, if you preregister you will receive a vendor folder and personalized stickers to give to vendors.

Need help? Northwest Cook Region Board members will be available all evening for one-on-one discussions about any questions your PTA may have.

PTA hosts Candidates’ Forum

The Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs invites all District 54 residents to meet the candidates for the District 54 School Board.

The PTA will host a Candidates’ Forum at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

Schaumburg Township Council Second Vice President Jim Sklena will serve as the moderator, asking all candidates pre-determined questions that involve issues related to the education of the students in our school district.

There are four seats up for election in District 54 and five candidates running.

January 10, 2017  – Bylaws I Training
South Middle School, 400 S. Highland Ave. in Arlington Heights
This workshop covers what bylaws are and what needs to be considered in updating them for your PTA and how to handle the process. Questions are welcome. The goal is to make a seemingly overwhelming task an easy task and process to go through. Bylaws are required to be reviewed and updated every two years.

January 10, 2017 – Nominating Committee Workshop
South Middle School, 400 S. Highland Ave. in Arlington Heights
This course explains the election of the nominating committee, the function of the nominating committee and provides the process and timeline needed to select quality candidates for your PTA. At least one person from your nominating committee should attend.

February 23, 2017 – Bylaws II
Dryden School, 722 S. Dryden Place in Arlington Heights
This is an interactive workshop in a computer lab that will allow onsite answers to last minute questions before approval by the director. Bring your last approved bylaws or desired changes on a jump drive to update the bylaws template. Time permitting, completed bylaws may be printed and approved onsite. Come prepared to create your final bylaws.

PTA Council named Super Partner

Breakfast STC SuperpartnerThe Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs was one of three Super Partners honored at the School District 54 Partnership Breakfast on Nov. 16. District 54 invited partners from all 28 schools as part of the American Education Week celebration. The annual event provides the district with an opportunity to thank the businesses, organizations and individuals who support our students and staff. Three partners were honored as this year’s Super Partners. The Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation (top) was honored for providing funds to support programs and activities that do not fit into District 54’s normal operating budget. The Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs (middle) was recognized for its long history of advocating for education and parent involvement. Willow Creek Care Center (bottom) was thanked for supporting students and families in need at Muir Literacy Academy.
