PTA hosts Staying Safe Home Alone Course

The Schaumburg Township Council of PTA’s Health and Safety Committee will present the American Red Cross Staying Safe Home Alone Course from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Hoover Math and Science Academy,  315 N. Springingsguth Road in Schaumburg.

The instructor will teach the children about safety awareness and what to do in emergencies while home alone.  Each child will create an emergency contact form and gain more confidence about being home alone. This free class is recommended for children ages 7 and up.

Space is limited so registration is a must. Please e-mail (child’s first name, grade and school) to hcoll@comcast.net by Friday May 18.

Make plans to attend Vendor Fair – April 25

The Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs annual Vendor Fair will be held Wednesday, April 25, at Frost Junior High School, 320 W. Wise Road in Schaumburg. The schedule is as follows:

5:30 – 7:30 p.m.: Walk through the fair in the school’s gym. Meet with potential vendors for fundraising, hot lunch, etc.

6 -7 p.m.: PTA communication workshop led by District 54 Community Relations Director Terri McHugh. Learn more about newsletters, websites, social media, the news media and more.

7:30 p.m.: General session in the cafe with information from Superintendent Ed Rafferty, the STC Executive Board and the Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation

8:30 p.m.: President and treasurer discussion group. This last session is a brief overview of what to expect in the coming year.

All District 54 PTA board and committee members are invited to attend.

PTA sponsors blood drive Feb. 14

The Schaumburg Township Council of PTA’s is helping Heartland sponsor a blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 14. It will be held from 1:30-7 p.m. in the boardroom at the School District 54 Administration Center, 524 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who weighs at least 110 pounds can participate.

A minimum of 600 pints of blood is needed every day for patients in area hospitals, according to Heartland. The Council of PTA’s host blood drives each year to help meet these needs.

January PTA Workshop

The Northwest Cook Region District 37 Illinois PTA will host a nominating committee workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the School District 15 administration building, 580 N. First Bank Drive in Palatine. Registration begins at 6 p.m. STC members interested in attending should RSVP to Lisa Guagenti or Nicole Fentem.
